Today i watched animes and played a game called Rome:Total War.
And i was reading something.I realised that i have to learn how to read korean otherwise i may not be able to get anything.
Geez,no problem,i will take my task to learn korea language!
Ah,there was nice interview betweeen 903 radio reporter and Nicholas Tse!
*english translation*
903 CR Radio2: Interview on ‘Yellow’ album
[He talked something about the ¾ beat of composing some songs and changing it through the song, but since I don’t understand the tempo of song composition, I didn’t jot down those parts]
From the way Nic talked, it seems the selection of songs were picked by Nic himself, as it included some non-plugged songs which he really wanted to plug, but since the record label must agree to the songs to be plugged, some of the songs he wanted to plug were never plugged. 'Criminal' (Cui Ren) is one of them, but since Jade Butterfly and Velvet Dragon did so well on the radio, they moved along to the next album instead.
Best Vocal Performance on the CD in Nic’s opinion
- No.3 - Velvet Dragon
In Nic’s opinion, he felt that this was one of his most complete song, a song he is very satisfied with overall. A bad habit he has when he composes is that he lets loose and let whatever note his heart wants to pound out, so sometimes they end up with a very wide range. Then he’ll listen to it afterwards and go “Wah, dai wok, why am I playing myself like this?” (referring to the range of the song). When he has to perform this song live, he’s usually fairly worried about it, since when it’s deep, it reaches really deep, and when it’s high, it reaches very high. Another bad habit he has is he ends up composing very long songs, so he’s worried about the radio not giving it much airplays. Even though this song is over 5 minutes , luckily 903 Radio still gave it very good airplay, but whenever he listens to it on radio, he jokingly said he never gets to hear his own guitar solo, since they always cut it. But he says if you ask him to play that guitar solo again now, he doesn’t think he could still play it.
- No.2 - Gold (Jade Butterfly Album)
A song he wanted to plug, and a one take live recording accompanied by a piano, and no editing, cutting and tweaking after it was recorded. So it might have been overloaded in some parts of the songs where you might hear a little static in the mic. A song where he cried while singing.
- No.1 - Buzz Lightyear (Invisible Album)
Another song where he cried while singing, he felt very lost and had a lot of problems around him at the time when he wrote it.
He fills that the story told in the song is the most important thing in it.
Mini: (I think it was Mini who was interviewing him, not 100% certain): Of emotion, vocals, range et cetera, which do you think is your best aspect?
Nic: I think my power is definitely my strongest point…and range.
Mini: Do you think it can be trained? Or is it something you’re born with?
Nic: I think it can be trained. (Then he said something about the abs and be fit and drawing air from your stomach when singing). I was fit when I recorded ‘Yellow’, and had Ar Lam’s “Larm yee dong ji keung” in my mind when I was recording it, if you ask me to record it again now, I don’t think I can do it.
Top 3 Lyrical works on the CD in Nic’s opinion
- No.3 - Call the End Of Century
Mini: Were you 21 when you wrote this song?
Nic: Not even, I was only 19 then. I remembered then I got a most popular idol award in 903 with Leo and Kelly, and when Sammy and Sil Yee was presenting it, the moment where when only got to say “Tse”, the whole crowd roared with “Hur” (Boo), it was in HK Coliseum and when I tried to sing it, I couldn’t hear anything at all but I still tried my best to sing it.
*Something about a 19 year old being booed like that, and that it must the most negative reaction ever in HK Coliseum*
Nic: When I went back stage, none of the staff dared to approach me, as I had absolutely no expression on my face after that. *Then he quoted a line from "Call the End Of century'
and talked about it*
Nic: I believe in truth, and the truth is harsh.
- No.2 - Criminal
Nic: This song was written with a purpose from the start, I locked myself in the room, but in the end it only took 30 minutes to write. I don’t believe in the garbage tabilod news, and some of it then affected a lot of my very close buddies. I tend to carry unnecessary blame on myself sometimes and hence I thought I was the Criminal
Nic: Hey you know (to Mini), back then when the chorus soften (they were playing the song before), was it you who pulled down the volume?
Mini: No, I didn’t touch it.
Nic: Ha! It’s ridiculous, it shouldn’t be like this. I’ll have to go back and yell at my record company about it. [This was quite funny if you heard his tone. =P]
I wasn’t satisfied with how the mixing of the current version of Day Month and Huang Zhong Ren (Yellow mandarin) you are listening to now. It’s far from perfect, and I’ve already told them off about it, but you know, as an artist, you can’t really do anything about it after the CD’s been released.
Mini: You really should produce your album yourself and get to master it!
Nic: Yeah.
- No.1- Jade Butterfly
I was browsing through a florist store one day, even though I’m allergic to pollens. But I was looking for a dark purple ‘gim larn’ (a flower), I couldn’t find it, instead I see a beautiful plant, so I ask the store keeper what it’s called. “Jade Butterfly” he said. Then I thought, it doesn’t look like one though? The store owner then told me to look at it from the top instead of horizontally, if taken care of properly, it can live up to a hundred years.
I brought it, then when I got back, I wrote something immediately and charged up to level 11. “Lam Chik!!!” I showed him the plant.
Lam Chik: What is it?
Nic: Jade Butterfly! The name’s good enough already, we can keep it as the song title.
Then I told him what I wanted, blah blah blah. It was a new record, he handed in the lyrics in 2-3 days.
From then on, I learnt something new. If you look at things from a different perspective, everything will be a lot more beautiful. The song may be just another song about love, but the lyric was beautifully written.
*He sings the last line of Jade Butterfly in the studio VERY loudly, then mumbles the last two words*
I’m sure the audience can hear it too! When I get back, someone’s waiting to be fired. (Jokingly) How can it be that the last two words are so soft, it’s not meant to be like that! [It might sounded like he’s whining in the translation, but he’s not, the tone in which he complained about it was actually quite funny. He had very much a “wtf!?” type of reaction]
Mini:Although we didn’t get to find out Ting Fung’s top 3 favourite songs today, we’ve learnt his top 3 favourite lyrical and vocal pieces. Next time Nic’s back, we’ll find out about his 3 favourite songs. Thanks for coming Nic, bye.
Nic: Bye bye.
*Wah!I agreed that jade butterfly is 100% special and unique apart from his previous albums.Jade butterfly song is damn good to listen.
Most of the songs i have already used for blog songs.
Latest news of him is about:
due to the great demand for nic to participate in both HK and china films/series, nic is scheduled to start filming in august and october (so after the release of his second album)
the one in august is with HK stars, EEG production on a film version of the manga called 'dragon tiger door'
after he's going to be the main lead role in a series production by the cooperation of mainland china, taiwan and HK: the secret history of hon hai (a famous emperor of the 'chin' dynasty) - he's acting as an emperor for the first time with his hair shaven to wear the wig ponytail!
*haha,i am glad that he can have a lot of works to do.I admired him for being brave and carried on doing in entertainment showbiz when the fans boo him(1999).
Nowadays,i see a lot of new celebrity stars in asia are having easy path than Nicholas Tse and some.
